Patricia Barnes: I’m a registered nurse, motivational speaker, personal development coach, international best-selling author x 4, and founder of Go Patty.

My company’s mission is to teach, encourage, and motivate others to reach their full potential as well as to live a golden life with big dreams despite your setbacks, fears, and insecurities.

Go Patty has helped others self-publish books on Amazon as well as develop the confidence to pursue their dreams and goals.

In the past year, what is the greatest business achievement you’d like to celebrate with your team? Please share the details of that success.

Patricia Barnes: In the past year, we have self-published a book that became the number one best-selling nationally and internationally. We were number one in five categories as well as number one in twelve countries.

If you know anything about writing a book, it’s a lot of steps to officially publish a book, including roadblocks. Sometimes roadblocks can cause a delay in publishing your book within a certain deadline.

But with any good success, there will be challenges that make celebrating even more special. The good news is because of one published book, several contributing authors are getting ready to launch their own book.

Quiet quitting, The Great Resignation, are an ongoing trend causing many businesses to struggle keeping talent engaged and motivated. Most are leaving because of their boss or their company culture. 82% of people feel unheard, undervalued and misunderstood in the workplace. In your experience, what keeps employees happy? And how are adapting to the current shift we see?

Patricia Barnes: I believe we all can relate to, at some point in our jobs or careers, feeling undervalued, misunderstood, and overworked leading to feeling unappreciated and unheard.

Personally, I learned it’s important to acknowledge employees for their hard work and contributions. Leadership is key to a happy workplace. Leadership must have core values of emotional intelligence, empathy, and patience.

The shift to a happier work environment is to take time to understand what your employees need, what issues they have, and don’t micromanage or use scare tactics. Value your employees’ opinions on what they believe would make the company better and reward them for their honesty.

Online business keeps on surging higher than ever, B2B, B2C, online shopping, virtual meetings, remote work, Zoom medical consultations, what are your expectations for the year to come and how are you capitalizing on the tidal wave?

Patricia Barnes: Currently, I get the majority of my business from online sales and networking. Social media is one of the greatest marketing strategies ever created.

My expectations are to focus more on online ad campaigns. I plan to capitalize on my target audience. Social media is a great tool for identifying your target audience, which makes ads and marketing strategies easier.

Business is all about overcoming obstacles and creating opportunities for growth. What do you see as THE real challenge right now?

Patricia Barnes: Chances are, if you’re not facing obstacles in business, then you’re not evolving or dreaming big. Les Brown said, “Success is not convenient. You have to make room for it”. The real challenge will be getting used to being uncomfortable as you elevate to the next level.

We don’t mind sharing our accomplishments and achievements, but when it comes to stepping out of your comfort zone to launch a new business product or service that you don’t know will be profitable, then you can become nervous and overwhelmed.

Learning how to embrace those emotions to create opportunities to grow and succeed is monumental. Good news it can be done with the mindset to overcome every obstacle that comes your way.

2020, 2021, 2022 threw a lot of curve balls into businesses on a global scale. Based on the experience gleaned in the past years, how can businesses thrive in 2023? What lessons have you learned and what advice would you share?

Patricia Barnes: If you had an online business, then 2020 through 2022 were profitable years for business owners. Since my business is online, I want to continue to focus on virtual events in 2023. People are comfortable being home, and it’s convenient to host events online.

My advice is to create digital products and services to add additional income. Don’t rely on one income. The last three years were a wake-up call to not have one job or one income. Never put yourself in a situation to need financial assistance or housing because your finances are not in order.

What does “success” in the year to come mean to you? It could be on a personal or business level, please share your vision.

Patricia Barnes: Success is the ability to have financial and time freedom. You don’t have to be rich to enjoy financial independence. I love when I can take a break or vacation and know that I will still get paid.

I love having the financial freedom to buy what I want without stressing; how will I pay my bills on time? Success is having healthy relationships and business partners. Lastly, success is living a peaceful life with a sound mind and abundant health.
